[Personal] High School Reflection

So here's just another entry article for myself later in life. It's for some BS Chinese project I had to do. All the seniors are on senior experience, and some teachers at Walsh just give you free periods. So I get a free period 4 days per week in Chinese, but I have to do some crappy assignment that I don't need to do even though that everyone else already left. But I won't complain and I'll just get it done.

I came to Walsh Jesuit High School from Brecksville public schools in August of 2012. I came in knowing only a few people from Brecksville, but that was ok because I didn’t really like too many people from my grade school anyways. I wasn’t the happiest person there, and they weren’t the happiest people either. So I was glad to get out of that place. My freshman year wasn’t too good. I didn’t make many memories. I didn’t make many friends, and I kind of regret it. But you only regret the chances you don’t take in the end, so I guess it was good. I didn’t even mind going to BW, and although I don’t think I took much out of it,l I don’t regret it. I joined tech crew and sat alone mostly, but it was good to get to know people and transition out of my weird phase. My biggest regret which I’ll care less about later is the loss of bragging rights when Mr. Richie kicked me out of Honors geo/trig. He intimidated me too much and I couldn’t get extra help. He was a poor example of a Jesuit unfortunately and didn’t really want to do his job. So I barely got through Honors Algebra 2 and then continued taking classes with seniors. It paid off though because I got a class off now and I don’t have to do anything. I still have to do 3 mini-projects though, but that’s not the worst thing that could have happened. They seem interesting, but they are total BS work. A little bit like what I’m doing now, but I’ll just get it done tonight and not have to worry about it again. During my sophomore year, I started to get to know more people. I was backstage a lot, got to know tech crew better, and took ambitions to becoming a lighting assistant. I helped Andrew Pla with some rigging and learned how lights work and how to setup everything in the theater. Also, I started toying with electronics a bit more and got some more programming experience under my belt. I didn’t have time to take any electives. Band and Chinese took up all of my free time, and I didn’t have time to take the classes I wanted to unfortunately. I regret taking band a little bit, but not that much. It would have freed up time to take Economics or some other electives I was interested in, but I didn’t have too much fun in band anyways this year. I got to know Pla a little bit better though and I had fun skipping band, having fun, and setting up stuff with him. So I don’t regret taking band at all now that I think about it. It was also the last year I got to know Mr. Gorbach, and the last year I got to know Chris Javey who I had tons of fun with and I have connections with him so if I want to become a DJ later, I can, and he can teach me. It’s something that might be cool to learn, so if I go up to him with a DJ deck or something, I can learn from him and also just have a good time while doing it. Still, I wish I could have skipped lunch to take some electives. Junior year, this year, was certainly my hardest. First semester was an overwhelming nightmare of taking an online C++ programming class, which involved long classes, no sleep, and strict deadlines. I understood parts of things, but also bull shitted a bunch of work just to cram in the deadlines. It was a learning experience, but I didn’t learn as much about programming as I would have liked. I took band again, and really knew Pla. I also joined stage band and played this year as a Jazz pianist. It had it’s ups and downs. Moments of stress, and a lot of moments of relaxation, but it’s all good and I don’t have too many regrets. I took chances, went to parties, and really enjoyed myself which is nothing I’ve ever done before, and I’m so glad I’m doing it now. Senior year is coming quick, and I’m sad to see all of my friends leave Walsh. All of the seniors and fun experiences I have will soon be gone and only exist in my memories. Until I start visiting people again in the summer or seeing them come back to Walsh to say a quick hello, I won’t see my friends enjoying Walsh or partying very much if anytime at all. It makes me sad and depressed, but it’s the circle of life I suppose. However, I have the summer to make some lasting memories. I plan on seeing some plays. Some musicals. Maybe a concert if I’m lucky and can afford one, but I’m kind of cheap, so I don’t know. I’m also playing in a jazz band, so maybe I’ll invite a few people to see me there and have fun after concerts and stuff. Maybe my parents will even let me go to Cedar Point over the summer. The future awaits. In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, so let’s take the harmless ones this summer :)
