I wish I could view ads to make Wikipedia & Reddit Money.

I'm a huge fan of Reddit. And I'm a huge fan of Wikipedia. Without them, the internet would not be the same. I would have done worse on history papers, and I wouldn't have jokes to tell Betsy Anderson. The problem is that both of them have limited advertising. Wikipedia is ad-free, and Reddit is very limited. Reddit has non-annoying ads, which bring me piece of mind. It's a picture or a text banner or a sponsored post labeled as such. It's clear what's an ad on Reddit, and I love them for it.

Because Reddit has such an awesome user experience, I want to support the site. More than just content though. I almost feel like Reddit is a giant community. My giant community, and I'd really love to have a job there one day. All of the employees seem so nice, and although there are problems once in a while, Reddit feels like a great place to be. 

From my perspective, Reddit makes money with sponsored posts, subreddits, links.... However, it's not annoying, bad, or anything. They also make money with users buying Reddit Gold. They try to convince the readers that Reddit Gold is great, but I really don't think most users see the value in it. There's a few perks like the option to turn off advertising completely or access the lounge, but there's nothing too special about it.

Here's the opposite thing. I'm cheap and don't feel like spending money, but I don't mind looking at video ads, pop-ups, and whatever if I'm making Reddit moolah. I'd rather do that than spend $4 on Reddit gold. I take that back. The ad-blocker turns on when there's forced video ads and pop ups. But I don't mind more advertising as long as I'm supporting Reddit. The same goes for Wikipedia. If there's sponsored pictures or ads on my content on Wikipedia, I would be happy to view them. It would make me happier to not have to look at the banner that says we really need your help and donations! I hate paying $5 out of guilt to help the Wikimedia foundation, but I do it anyways.

I think there's one important thing both companies need to do though: give the user control.

TL;DR: Dear Reddit & Wikipedia, please give us an optional ad enable switch so we don't feel guilty about not donating to you. Sincerely, your users.
