Authenticity in Dating

I wrote a post a week or two weeks ago about how people are different from each other. I wanted part two to be centered around authenticity, because even though relationships are supposed to be about authenticity, I think a lot of the problems that cause break-ups are because of problems with authenticity.

I went on a dinner date with a girl on campus lately. We went to the Cheesecake Factory as friends for the last year and a half, and I told her in the last five minutes of the car ride that I liked her... like liked her. Back it up... not like like like her. Two likes. The two likes that mean more than a friend. I want to be best friends with her - but that usually means dating, and so it became a "I want to date you" sort-of impression because initial conversations are often awkward.

I have plenty of stories about the date for another time... but recently, I have been thinking more and more about authenticity. Right now, I behave in certain ways which are not sustainable. I write a lot of letters to people, I dress up in a Batman onesie and went to the library tonight, I sign up for a million things and have no idea how much time I'd be able to spend with her even if she wants to be best friends (and dare I say the word 'date').

Right now - I want to go to a meeting and dress up as a dinosaur, but not forever. When I'm 80 I might turn into some grouch. I've got a lot of work to go on that prenuptial agreement. My timing might be off too, especially if I'm going to date as I write this prenuptial agreement.

I'm too tired to write things that make sense. Enjoy a picture of the people I aspire to be friends with in halloween in twenty years.
(And a bonus... all stolen from Reddit)
