Optimistic Bliss at the Cat Cafe
I go to the cat cafe quite often. It’s about 10 minutes away from campus, yet, nobody steps off, except me. And quite often, it’s at the Cat Cafe. Last Thursday, I took my freshman crush Lilia Thomas here to catch up. I brought a 3DS and a 2DS and Mario Kart and I’d hope to play Mario Party or talk… but instead, she was so happy to be with the cats, I just let her be happy. Today, I brought Becca LeBeouf here, and like Lilia, she’s more engaged in the cats than I am. That’s good for me right now because I don’t feel like talking, but this is the place that I love and adore, yet, everyone else loves and adores the cats more than I do.
In these two cases, each of the girls has something that I don’t - an amazement and wonder for the Gem City Catfe. It’s an amazement and wonder I wish I still had, but don’t have about this or quite frankly anything. Becca is acting like a 10 year old girl. As I’m typing this, she’s waving a purple wand around and the cats are spinning around in a circle amused. I’m typing on a laptop though.
She says phrases like “that’s so cute” and “hi baby.” And she means it. She’s really dialoguing with the cats in ways that I can’t. Like… she’s a 10 year old with the creative confidence to engage in ridiculous behaviors, and it’s something that I wish I could do once in a while. Not just the cats - but life. Operate less like a rational being and live more in some sort-of optimistic bliss. Because even though it’s silly, playful, and childish, she’s super happy.
So there’s two questions in my mind. The first… is this something to be concerned about? Should I just be myself, or should I try to change my behaviors and attitudes. I think I should because I’m the person in the room that isn’t doing anything to help others nor the spirit. It’s like those guys in the movie theatre that use their phone, except now it’s me and a laptop inside of a cat cafe.
The second question is what do I do about it? Optimism and happiness is hard to be shared. But she does have a stellar attitude, one that I used to have and have seemed to lost. And the first step to changing myself for the better…? I could act differently. Some would argue that’s fakery. I would argue we’re all faking it.
