Hi Dayton! I'm Michael Chase

Introduction

Hi, I'm Michael Chase! I'm from the Cleveland area, and I'm excited to go to UD for engineering. I'm not sure which type yet, but I got a year and a half to figure it out on top of the experiences I'm taking away from NASA as an intern at the moment. In high school, I've dedicated my time and became as involved as I could ranging from running theater equipment (especially lighting) to starting a robotics program to developing my piano skills to play in our jazz band. In the last year, I've worked as a chemist at a company called Chromascape which made the colors that go into your mulch, concrete, or even the rubber insulation in the cars that you drive. I've settled with this company for a while, mostly because of the friendly people, but also because of the new challenges I have to face and overcome.

One of the most interesting parts of my life is meeting people and building up friendships. Four years ago, I'd never imagine myself reaching out to others at NASA, Chromascape, or people at my school, or in the future at UD, but now, I'm much more confident and enjoy the interactions I have as I meet new people every day. My favorite question to ask people is "why?" Why do people make the decisions they do? Why is it cheaper to run utilities underground. My second favorite question starts with "what if." "What if I started my own IT local consulting firm," something I'd like to try one day. My favorite part about UD is the strong community that exists there. I'm really excited to get to know people through the things that inspire me, that is, computers, music, composing, and entrepreneurship opportunities, and so much more. I love learning about the world around me, and I'm always up for learning new things or understanding other people's point of view.

I like to think that the things I do are useful. I definitely put school first, but I'm not afraid to try new things and get involved as much as I can. I want to be a part of Flyer Central (UD's student run business), join an intramural sport (even though I'm bad at sports), and hopefully some sort of music group. The plan is to major in engineering, but also to minor in business while having a chance to take a few music classes. Then we'll see where the future takes me. I'd like to start a business one day, but I also love working at NASA and can see myself coming back in a few years.

I've put a few other facts about myself down below, but I like to think I'm pretty relaxed. I'm open to chance, learning new things, and I can adapt to problems as I encounter them. If you're the type of person that likes to stay out late, work until some crazy late hour, I don't mind. I'll throw in some headphones and fall asleep as I listen to the latest podcast of "Science Vs." with Wendy Zukerman, which is just one of the many podcasts I listen to and love. If you haven't gotten into podcasting, give it a try - I'm super passionate about podcasts, so give Science Vs. a try.

So that's all about me - but now it's your turn. Give me a call or send me an email: 440-447-0861 or send me an email at mikechase3@outlook.com.
